Different Flooring Ideas for Your Apartment

Selection of the right material for flooring is a very important decision that you have to make during construction or renovation of your home or office. A considerable amount of investment is involved so the right decision needs to be taken considering factors like initial investment, the life of the flooring material, ascetics, design etc. Some of the flooring ideas for your apartment are: Ceramic Tiles Ceramic tiles are plain clay moulded in the shape of a tile and heated to a high temperature inside a kiln. The heat hardens the structure of the tiles and fuses in the colour and design of the tile. Ceramic tiles are not very strong. These tiles are also very porous and thus absorb water easily. In order to make them resistant to water, they are often glazed.

Laminate Flooring

Laminate flooring is gaining popularity in India for its sheer durability and sturdiness. Easy to install, laminate flooring is fairly resistant to stains and water damage. However, once damages, this type of flooring will need complete replacement as it cannot be re-polished or re-done. The diversity in the range of patterns and finishes makes it well suited to various decor styles in Indian homes. While shopping for laminate flooring, make sure you ask for the ‘slip-resistant’ kind. Natural Stone Flooring The charm of natural stone adds a lovely look to any home design and is perfect for introducing a cooling element to beat the Indian summers. The choice of colours and grains provides almost unlimited options that can be matched to suit different colour schemes. If you’re looking for a little touch of luxury, stone floor tile provides quality, at a premium price. Some popular ones are granite, marble, limestone, slate and travertine. Linoleum Linoleum is also quite simple to install and can be very cheap, depending on the quality. Pictured here we see a very natural looking linoleum material being used to enhance the organic feel created by the bamboo railings. Granite Floor

A common igneous rock composed of quartz, orthoclase, and hornblende, often accompanied by pyroxene or mica. It is called granite because of the granular surface. Granite is frequently used for buildings and monuments. It is a popular choice for not only flooring but also for countertops in kitchen and shelves. Like marble, it’s a durable and versatile material that’s wonderfully suited for floor tile.
